When a downed power line ignited the drought-parched forest floor on April 16, 2007, it set off a chain of staggering events. The raging Georgia Wildfires of 2007 soon became the largest and most devastating in state history.
- Fires burned more than 460,000 acres in eight weeks
- $44 million was spent on fire suppression
- $60 million worth of timber was destroyed
- 3,300 brave firefighters battled the blaze
As the proud agency devoted to protecting people and property from wildfire, the Georgia Forestry Commission led this emergency effort with professionalism, grit and distinction.
